Blogs and Articles on Bookkeeping and QuickBooks Online
Is Bookkeeping Boring?
... or... why should I read a blog on Bookkeeping?
Of course it is... some might say... But those are often the individuals who haven't realized the POWER and MAGIC hidden within their financial statements. Perhaps they signed up for QuickBooks Online or another software program to handle the bookkeeping, but didn't realize that you can't just turn it on and make it work. You need to learn how to use QuickBooks or any software program before you start using it for your business. Otherwise, when you look at your financial statements, they won't make much sense. Or maybe they DO seem Reasonable, but are they Dependable? Can you count on the information to help make business decisions?
Bookkeeping... can be Magical!!! If you are a do-it-yourselfer, and you learn how to do bookkeeping the right way, you can take those moments when you are tired ("brain-dead" I call it), curl up with a nice cup of tea or something, or even a quiet table at a nice restaurant... and get much of the simple parts of bookkeeping done. QuickBooks Online makes it so easy... if you know what you are doing!
If you are on the path to LEARN * DO * DELEGATE, then learning how to use QuickBooks or other software programs will be key to being able to hand it off to someone else. You will need to have a system in place that ensures the data is entered properly, questions get answered, and useful reports are produced. You will also need to keep your money safe from theft and embezzelment by bookkeepers who don't quite have the same ethics as you do.
But what about the Power and Magic hidden within financial statements, Jackie? What are you talking about?
Consider these questions:
- What are my goals for the business? Why do I want to run a business? How much time do I want to spend on it?
- How much money do I want to make?
- What is my R.O.T. - Return on Time? (How much money do I make per hour I work?)
- When should I pass the bookkeeping off to someone else? How do I hire them?
- How do I know if I can count on the information in my Income Statement?
- What does my Balance Sheet mean?
- What is the difference between "Profit" and "Cash in the Bank"?
- How much have I taken out of the business? How much tax will I have to pay on it?
- What are my GOALS... and how do I measure progress towards them?
These are just a handful of the thousands of questions that can be asked when it comes to bookkeeping for small businesses, growing businesses, and scaling-up businesses. Don't leave bookkeeping as something you have to do just because taxes have to be paid. Find the Magic and Power in it to accomplish your business goals... and your personal goals to!
